Dairy farm essay

Dairying is a capital intensive farming. A modern dairy farm needs long hours from the farmer and huge amounts for the develop­ment of infrastructural facilities. Capital is required for the purchase of mechanical equipment’s like milking machines, milk freezers, feeding towers, barns and silos for the storage of fodder for winters.

Modern methods of dairy farming, cattle breeding and herd man­agement allow high yields of dairy products. A cow in temperate lati­tudes under normal healthy conditions yields as much as 3000 kg (6900 lbs) of milk per year which fetches a handsome amount to the farmer.

In the temperate latitudes, dairying in the most important activity in the areas where climate is too damp for cereal cultivation. Though natural pastures are most important, many farmers keep their cattle under cover in winters. Dairying is a capital intensive farming.

The rearing of the cattle for milk and milk products (butter, cheese, condensed and dried milk, etc.) is known as dairy farming. It is mainly practiced in Europe, northern USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
